Munster Rugby Supporters Club

Brief

With the explosion in Munster Rugby’s popularity and profile over the last decade, demand for match tickets have reached a premium, and concerns of fairness and transparency in ticket distribution are of paramount importance to the Munster Rugby Supporters Club.

During these past number of years, as membership of the Club grew beyond the wildest expectations, so did the complexity of ensuring that the right people got priority access to tickets in an efficient and convenient manner.

The process was extremely laborious, involving applications via e-mail and fax, cross-checking of eligibility, manual verification of credit card details and finally ticket allocation. The team of Supporters Club volunteers knew there was a better way.

Annual Membership & Season Tickets Allocations Phase One

Magico.ie had a strong relationship with Munster Rugby since 2004, having previously developed a solution for Munster Rugby Supporters Junior Renewals and designing the Munster Rugby Supporters Club Webite. After consulting with the Club, magico.ie designed a secure end-to-end online membership & season ticket allocation solution, with full web-based payment functionality provided by Secpay. Members access the facility via user name and password entry, and ticket releases are phased to ensure maximum fairness of distribution across full and associate membership categories. The facility allows supporters to purchase and renew memberships at certain times of the year, as well as offering tickets for Heineken Cup, Celtic League and other fixtures.


Online Shopping Module

To facilitate the purchase of tickets, Magico created an online shopping module which gave the supporters club the ability to sell items online (i.e. match tickets or Munster Rugby Merchandise). The diversity of the solution allowed members to access to purchase specific Munster Rugby Merchandise or Tickets depending on their membership type. Magico also developed the solution to ensure certain products/tickets were only available to purchase with a quantity restriction. This was important particularly in the area of ticket purchasing.

The magico.ie team pulled out all stops to ensure this facility was established in time for Munster’s Heineken Rugby Cup quarter final against Perpignan at Lansdowne Rd on 1st April 2006. Supporters were allowed to buy 2 tickets using secure online payment methods, and to submit good luck messages to the team at the time of purchase. The reaction was instant and overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the deserved reputation of the Supporters Club as a volunteer organisation with the highest professional standards.

As the men from Munster advanced from the quarter final through the memorable semi final against Leinster, to the unforgettable scenes in Cardiff, magico.ie was there all the way, streamlining the ticketing process and helping the Supporters Club communicate with its members via the website.

One of the recent successes of this facility is the ability for Munster to run their very successful monthly giant draw which has been a large revenue generator for Munster Rugby Academy which helps to develop the future of Munster Rugby.


Website redesign

In 2007, MRSC approached Magico for a redesign of the site. The new version of the site is an information portal for Munster members as well as visiting fans. With vast amounts of valuable information for all fans, a clear, logical layout of information was key. A synopsis of the information within the site is covered in strategically placed information panels on the homepage of the site giving the user immediate access into the more important sections of the site.

Overall the site is enhance by quality graphics and an array of great quality images provided by Munster Supports Club Photography enthusiasts who illustrate the joy, agony and tension that players and their supports experience.


Membership Renewals Phase Two - Staged Payments Facility

The Munster Rugby supporters club are continually improving their membership renewal process for their members each year.
This year in light of the economic conditions, they introduced a staged payment facility where members pay their membership subscription and season tickets in three instalments scheduled over three months. This has been a much welcomed payment plan for supporters who are feeling a cash pinch in these economic times. And to avoid any other upheaval, the system even allowed supporters the option of purchasing tickets in the same seat location they held the year before
